Smith, Dush Announce State Grants for Local Infrastructure, Recreation Projects
December 18, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Brian Smith (R-66) and Sen. Cris Dush (R-25) today announced the awarding of $1.1 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support infrastructure improvements and recreational enhancements in Jefferson County.
“These investments will offer a big boost to our county and local governments as they look to get these projects underway,” Smith said. “Whether it’s improving essential municipal services or creating safe, inclusive spaces for families, these grants will make a difference for a lot of residents.”
“Our communities depend on the essential services and recreational amenities our municipalities provide,” said Dush. “These investments will allow our local governments to improve their services and run efficiently.”
The grants awarded include:
• Brockway Borough – $150,000 to purchase a 2025 Freightliner Vac Truck to be used by the Brockway Borough Street Department, Brockway Area Sewage Authority and Brockway Borough Municipal Authority. The new equipment will allow the borough to perform regular maintenance in-house, reduce costs associated with hiring outside contractors and improve scheduling flexibility.
• Brookville Borough – $300,000 to replace outdated playground equipment at Longview Park. The project includes the purchase and installation of ADA-compliant playground structures, nature-themed play elements and safety surfacing designed to promote physical development and social interaction for children.
• Falls Creek Borough – $488,000 to replace wastewater pumps throughout its distribution system. The original wastewater pumps are closing out their average life expectancy, and several pumps have already failed, leaving the authority with only one pump at any given station. The authority wants to replace all eight pumps in their stations to ensure continued effective operation of the system.
• Jefferson County – $162,000 for technology upgrades and additions. Funds will be used for security cameras for select county buildings, along with the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) system. The MDF system is a critical technical component required to support the camera upgrades and must be included. LSA funds will be used for the funding for the MDF system, cameras at various county facilities, cameras at the county jail, administration and contingencies.
LSA grants are funded through gaming revenues under Act 71 of 2004 and are intended to support economic development, community improvement and public interest projects across the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency responsible for administering economic development and community improvement programs across Pennsylvania.
