Smith: More Than $432,000 in Natural Gas Impact Fees Awarded to 66th District

June 24, 2025

PUNXSUTAWNEY – State Rep. Brian Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana) announced Jefferson and Indiana counties will receive a combined sum of more than $252,000 in impact fees from the natural gas industry. In addition, the municipalities in the 66th Legislative District will receive an additional amount of nearly $180,000 combined.

Impact fees are levied in addition to regular business taxes paid by every corporation in Pennsylvania. The disbursements were established in 2012 to ensure communities affected by drilling receive their fair share of funding for projects such as road and bridge repairs, housing and other infrastructure needs.

“These impact fees are figuratively the cherry on top when it comes to the natural gas industry,” Smith said. “The real benefit it provides is tens of thousands of good jobs and powering our homes and businesses. Improving our communities with these impact fees is just a nice bonus.”

A complete list of disbursements to counties and municipalities is available on the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s website at puc.pa.gov.
